Dr Sylvia Lim-Tio is a consultant endocrinologist and specialist physician in diabetes and endocrinology, including specialist clinical interests in endocrine hypertension; adrenal, pituitary and thyroid disease; endocrine cancers (including thyroid cancer) and endocrine genetics; and adolescent and young adult care (including Type I Diabetes, PCOS/ menstrual irregularity/ Turner syndrome/other pubertal disorders )
Dr Lim-Tio completed her medical degree and postgraduate doctoral studies at Melbourne and Monash University respectively; completed her endocrine training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Medical Centre; and furthered her clinical and research experience overseas at the Middlesex (UCL) Hospital London and at Cancer UK.
Her postgraduate research centred in nuclear receptor action, including doctoral studies in mineralocorticoid (adrenal)/ glucocorticoid action, and subsequently in estrogen receptor action at Cancer UK.
She has been a previous recipient of the Jamieson Prize for Clinical Medicine, a full time National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) scholarship for PhD Studies in mineralocorticoid / glucocorticoid receptor action and a previous joint recipient of the Endocrine Society of Australia Junior Scientist award.
She has published in peer reviewed journals and presented at national and international meetings.
She is an associate senior clinical lecturer with the University of Sydney. She has established and developed local services including an inpatient diabetes service, a late effects clinic for cancer survivors, an Endocrine Genetics/ Endocrine Cancer clinic and a Turner syndrome clinic.
Dr Lim-Tio maintains a broad general interest in, and accepts referrals in all fields of endocrinology and diabetes. She is committed to working with patients to optimise individual and evidence-based outcomes.
